17th May 2017

Art and Design students from Harrogate College have been announced as the winners of Harrogate’s first Pride in Diversity art competition as part of on-going celebrations to mark the event.

Over the last two weeks, Harrogate has been gearing up for its first ever Pride parade, taking place on Saturday 20th May. Events have been taking place all over the Town in the run up, including inspiring guest speakers, exhibitions and an art competition, open to all.

Harrogate College Art and Design student Joe Harris won the Under 19 Category with his image, connoting the difficulties you face when coming out as gay in society. Joe used a variety of media to produce his image, including metal wire, crushed paper and a monochromatic facial illustration.

Students Dayna Bennett, Maya Jagger and Jape Phillips won the Over 19 Category for their blended photograph depicting two ladies holding hands whilst another image was superimposed over the top, using Photoshop.

Degree level student Polly Lambert was placed third in the category, with former student Della Ryder taking second place.

The winners work will now be showcased at a variety of places in Harrogate, to celebrate the first of Harrogate’s Pride in Diversity. Congratulations to our Art and Design students!
