Harrogate College’s Student Recognised for his Involvement in the Community
In October the 10th Annual Harrogate District Volunteering Oscars were held at the Old Swan Hotel, in Harrogate. This was an evening where volunteers who have contributed greatly to the local community were invited and celebrated.
Harrogate College’s very own Josh Knibbs, a BTEC Level 1 Business student, was in attendance as he was awarded the Highly Commended Young Volunteer of the Year Award. Josh was celebrated for his contribution to Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre, which started more than two and a half years ago. What began as a short work experience as a Year 10 student in the café area quickly led to regular volunteering days. “I really like volunteering there, the staff and customers are very friendly, and it is a nice environment to work in”, said Josh.
His enthusiasm and dedication have not gone unnoticed as he was recently offered a part-time position, working the different events hosted at the Centre throughout the year. Nonetheless, he still enjoys volunteering regularly in order to sharpen his people, hospitality and communication skills. They have greatly contributed to his success at the College, and will undoubtedly help him achieve his academic endeavour of pursuing a Level 3 Digital and Gaming qualification.
Harrogate College is proud of Josh’s accomplishments, and we encourage him to continue having fun and encouraging his peers to make their mark in the community.
We invite students interested in giving back to the community to take part in the upcoming Volunteering Hub held at the Library on Wednesday 15th November between 10am – 12pm. There will be a great number of important charities present such as Cancer Research, Marie Curie, RSPCA and many more. Come, have a chat and get involved!
